Metal Expansion Joints Make Projects Work

Concrete construction mandates more than the ability to mix the ingredients to specifications. It takes the experience and expertise to know how long the cement will take to cure and the characteristics of the finished work. Plans invariably call for metal expansion joints to allow for expansion and contraction after curing and the effects of weather. Not enough or properly place joints will lead to cracking. During the process 2/3 of an inch are lost per 100 feet in length. That's why you never see miles of masonry roads without them placed into slabs. Concrete building construction has even more demands because of the constant stress of gravity, winds, weather and movement within the edifice.
