Block Cap
To help control costs, block caps are used to close off the cells that do not require the grout in a vertical reinforcing system. Block Caps are preformed metal inserts that sturdily lock between concrete block voids to stop grout infiltration into the vertical cells that do not use reinforcing. The grout must flow into some vertical cells to bond the blocks with the reinforcing members anchored in the foundation. Therefore, block caps and bond beams are typically used in wall systems that have a combination of vertical and horizontal reinforcement. This highly reinforced wall system is common where buildings must withstand high wind loads. |
