PVC Waterstops
BoMetals categorizes PVC waterstops by the type of concrete joints they seal. The characteristics of the joint puts differing demands on the PVC waterstops and the expected performance. The menu at the left, uses the following terminology:
Moving Joints experience different amounts of movement, dictating multiple design configurations of the PVC waterstops we manufacture. Non-Moving Joints actually have some movement that is why Ontario Hydro had PVC Waterstops developed in the 1950's. The dumbbell profile was the original shape of PVC waterstops. We manufacture both dumbbell and flat ribbed shapes for non-moving joints. For this joint type, BoMetals also offers strip applied waterstop, Base Seal, Multi-Rib and Retrofit polyvinyl chloride (PVC) waterstops. Expansion (Isolation) Joint:A joint that separates the slab structurally from other building elements such as walls, columns, foundations, drain pipes, to accommodate differential horizontal and vertical movement.Contraction (Control) Joint:A formed, sawed or tooled groove in a concrete structure to create a weakened plane and regulate the location of cracking resulting from the dimensional change of different parts of the structure.Construction Joint:A joint placed in a slot where concreting operations are concluded for the day.-Reprinted with permission, American Concrete Institution, CCS-1, Slabs on Grade, Mary K.
